Better decisions start with a shared map

AfCEN Atlas is the location-intelligence platform built by the Africa Climate and Energy Nexus. It puts corridor infrastructure, resources and projects on one governed, interactive map.

Why we built it

Across African corridors, the same questions come up in every meeting: where does the railway run, how far is the port, which zones have power, where is water scarce. The answers usually sit in PDFs, spreadsheets and GIS files that disagree with one another.

We set out to put that evidence on one map that stays current: data connected where it lives, layers styled once, versions published deliberately and every change recorded. Atlas, the built-in agent, lets anyone ask the map a question without learning GIS.

The result is a reusable service. Each new corridor or workspace becomes another map, configured rather than rebuilt, and the Corridor OS platforms and other AfCEN sites can embed it instead of copying it.

What we hold ourselves to

Traceability

Every layer carries its source, licence and attribution. If a figure cannot be traced to a dataset, it does not belong on the map.

Accountability

Machines propose. People with the right permissions publish. Every action, by a person or an agent, is audited.

Honesty about gaps

A source that fails or has not loaded is shown as unavailable, not hidden behind a map that only looks complete.

Reusability

One service, many maps. Improvements to the viewer and to Atlas reach every map and every embed at once.

Where a map stops

A map is only as good as its sources. Atlas shows what the data says and leaves these questions to the people and processes that own them.

  1. Land title and cadastral boundaries
  2. Survey-grade positions and engineering design
  3. Field verification of assets
  4. Official border delimitation
  5. Real-time operational status
  6. Investment and permitting decisions

About AfCEN

The Africa Climate and Energy Nexus (AfCEN) works with governments, project sponsors and financiers across African corridors. Its corridor platforms share tools for evidence, mapping, convening and project preparation across countries and institutions.

Bring your corridor data to the map

Connect a database, a web service or a file, shape the layers, and publish a map your partners can open, embed and question.
